Addiction Treatment Services Plans Major Change to Better Serve Northern Michigan

Addiction Treatment Services (ATS), a longstanding non-profit care provider in Traverse City, is making significant organizational changes to improve client support and sustainability for the future. As part of a long-term vision, ATS plans to consolidate its scattered facilities into a single centralized campus. Currently the agency operates multiple buildings across town including recovery homes, outpatient services, withdrawal management and more.

To help fund this campus vision and streamline care, ATS is preparing to sell six recovery homes and has paused admissions into the recovery homes program for now. The consolidation aims to reduce logistical challenges that can disrupt client engagement when services are spread out. ATS leaders say this centralized approach should make it easier for clients to access the full spectrum of care all in one location.

While the recovery homes pause means a temporary reduction in transitional housing, ATS is expanding outpatient options, telehealth services and insurance acceptance to maintain support for those seeking help. Planning work including architectural studies will continue through 2026 with hopes for a groundbreaking in 2027.
